Caps lock, control and command

System settings → Customise modifier keys → Map caps lock to command
If you need anything more complex at the system level, karabiner looks like the right tool
These are my mappings as of March 2023:
- caps lock → command (for everything)
- leftmost key (control or function) → caps lock (same as linux/windows)
- second from left (function or control) → function/“globe”
- option (windows key location) → control (for the window manager, consistent with windows)
- command (alt key location) → option (with iterm2 sending alt hex codes) – on mac option+left/right is almost always mapped to move by one word and I haven't found a way of avoiding having to get used to this although karabiner-elements could probably do it
Install one of your saved keymaps for iterm2, to map most command combinations to control and some opt combinations to alt
